Jack Knife Sofa Fold flat on wall?

Has anyone fabricated a method to fold their jack knife sofa flat against the wall for storage? To make room for toys?

I have a sofa and wanting to put it in and make it fold flat on the wall.
  • I'm not sure I understand your question.

Doesn't your jackknife couch already fold up? We have HappiJac beds new, so it's been a little while for me, but the couches in our old WW folded up flat and buckled to the walls. Yours don't do this?
  • Yup. My WW sofa did the same, and even had buckles on the window valence to hold it up. I added 2 more jackknife sofas to the garage, and they likewise folded up flat, but I just secured them with a ratchet strap in the up position.

If your sofa has folding legs, you should be able to do the same. If yours was build on a wood platform, if might need some minor mods to make it work like this.
  • I'd be interested to see pics, or even a mock-up drawing of the fabrication.
The sofa folds flat horizontally, not vertically. I want to fold it out flat, then fold that flat bed up against the wall out of the way of whatever I will load in the trailer.

There needs to be a frame holding a pivot/hinge the same distance from the wall that the sofa is thick when in flat position, and that hinge point needs to move up so there is room for the bed to fold to the wall without the sofa having to be so high off the floor that your feet dont touch when sitting. Hope that clears it all up...
  • I think you're talking apples and oranges. a sofa with jack knife bed is not the jack knife bed/bench that comes in Toy Haulers. You can't fold up a jack knife sofa.

No, I am fully aware that no trailer manufacturer is providing this ability.
Jack knife sofas fold out flat to become a bed.
The question is how others might have folded this flat bed up against the wall.

I have my own ideas, but if I can find a better one I will use that method.
