What is the best way to protect the King Pin from kids knocking them selves out and or cutting there heads. I don't want to spend o bunch of money on a stabilizer so what other options, I've used nood...

I would put some orange cones around the kingpin on the ground. If that doesn't work... after they hit their head on it once, they won't do it again, and neither will their friends ;-)
