Leak in roof @ A/C

Just noticed a leak in the roof in my toyhauler garage a/c unit. Been raining tons lately. The water is dripping from the unit at the panel that has the foam filter in it. any clues to where I should start my search for the leak?
  • One thing to check is the gasket between roof and AC. If you remove the cover with filter in it, you should see 4 bolts securing the AC to the roof. Those bolts squish the gasket to make a snug seal. The key word is snug! You could snug them up a little more, but do not tighten them.

  • Thx Jerry, will start there. Lucky to have 4-5 days before our next storms to figure this out.
  • I would snug those bolts but still go up top and take a look-see under the cover and see what is happening rather than wait for the next rain to see if just the bolts did the trick.
  • yep, I had a slight leak when new. mfr. hadn't snugged up all the bolts.

  • Whaddya know! Bolts were backed out over a 1/4 inch. Ghost marks show they WERE tight once.

Well I hope that does the trick, and takes care of your leak! When ACs are installed new, the gasket is compressed about halfway. After several years use, the bolts can loosen a little, or the gasket may take a set.

    Good luck,

That's exactly why the annual servicing of the A/C unit includes snugging up those mounting screws. rockin'
