Need to clarify!
The leak is between the window frame and the outside wall.
If this is the case, the best way is to remove the window and replace the butyl tape. Requires removing screws around the interior window frame, then with a helper push the window out. Get butyl tape wider then what you expect to use. After installing window trim off excess.
Odds are the leah is on the top working it's way around the frame.
Sure, you can use sealant, but that is stalling permenent corrective action.
