leaking slide gaskets

I just got back from a boondocking campout on a really dusty road. There was lots of dust inside the 5ver right by the slideout gasket, w
when I open the door. How can this be fixed?
The DW said she made sure it was all way in. I asked before we left to come home. There was no dust when we arrived at our camping spot.

Since I was having issues when the slide was closed, it was put on the wall for the slide to seal to when open. You could do the same on the outside, I'm sure. You also might want to check your seals for cracks or the off-chance that one might have "flipped" the wrong way. I've seen that happen once or twice. Might also think about some dry lube. Again, make sure all windows and vents are tight; a 1/4" gap can let in a lot of dust!

Did the same thing across bottom area of 5vr where slide-out sealed against bottom......
  • Another thing to use is some self-stick weatherstrip foam. I did that on my slide when I noticed some water coming in. No more water. Dust is always hard to seal out, though one little crack, like a vent not quite cranked all the way down, and you can suck in a lot. I know that if I boondocked a lot, I'd certainly think about adding a filtered air vent into my FW just for this purpose. Just need a slight pressure differential to keep the dust out.

  • Where did you put the caulk and what kind did you use. If you could take a picture, that would really help.

    thanks
  • With the slide closed, look at the bottom corners, near the floor. On mine the gasket was intact and tight but there was a 1/4" gap at the corner. Water would leak in, only when driving in heavy rain. We sealed it with a bit of caulk.
  • On dusty roads are about the only camping we do. We have a 2012 Sundance 3200RE. It doesn't get dusty very often but this time it did.
  • Don't camp on Dusty roads! We live in the country in a 50s farm house and as the area around us has grown. The traffic has increased. The county came along a few years ago and clear cut the ditches back to the fence line ( a whole other story) well the trees and bushes would block the dust off the road. and we live up from a SRA state rec area with camping and boating. So people turn on our road instead of the next one that is paved. So for years we have been dusting our house cant even open the windows in the summer you can see the clouds of dust hang in the air. The house still gets dusty. Sorry it finds its way in everywhere and everything.
