Lifted Truck Pulling a Fiver or Gooseneck

I have a 2000 Dodge 2500 4X4 with a 4.5 inch lift. The FW I tow is a 1986 Fleetwood Terry. The axles were flipped and a lift installed. Haven't had any issues towing. Truck and trailer sit pretty level. No pictures as of yet after we get back from Vac will try to post. Living in CO they are a lot of places you can go when it's taller.

About the only decent way you are going to tow with a lifted vehicle is to get one of these:

Automated Safety Hitches.

Other than that, I will certainly agree with the majority here who say no, don't do it.

Good responses so far. Most fivers are built to be level with the king pin 48 inches off the ground. With a typical pin box, that puts the trailer underside at 60 inches off the ground and if you want 6 inches of clearance, the truck bed rails can't be higher than 56 inches when loaded. I will not get into a sarcastic answer on what you want to do, but not a good idea in my opinion.
The new 4x4 trucks are already pretty much at the height limit for a 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer. Adding a lift will put you out of range.
You can tow a smaller/lighter travel trailer with a lifted truck and a long drop hitch, but forget the 5er/gooseneck. And I really don't think even a larger TT is a very good idea either as it would be difficult or impossible to use a weight distributing hitch.

Not a good idea IMO. You're raising your center of gravity which will tend to make the truck less stable, and when towing less stable is not a good thing. Like was mentioned the new trucks are already too tall(IMO) and cause clearance issues even without a lift. You definitely will have trouble finding a 5th wheel/toyhauler that you will be able to fit under.

I think you'd be better off foregoing the lift if you plan on towing anything of any size. JMO of course.

I spent months looking for a truck to tow our 5th wheel. It was hard finding a 4-5 year old truck that wasn't lifted. I can understand lifted trucks if you live in a place where a man is judged by the size of the tires on his truck, but if you are towing anything, a lifted truck is a huge liability. You will be plagued with steering issues, driveline issues, reliability issues and an unstable 14' tall fifth wheel. Don't know why anybody would want to do that.....

Another lifted "Freeway Queen" in the making! People just have to much money and not enough brain cells. These new trucks are very complicated and need a good warranty to keep them running correctly. Why ANYONE would do anything to one of these new trucks that would give the manufacturer a reason to void the warranty is unbelievable.

And then they want to tow with it!!!!!

All of my life I have been the first one to to get a truck home and start ripping it apart to modify it. My jeep had 35" tires on it the day after I bought it. When it came time to buy a tow vehicle I had very few choices. My father in law towed my 5th wheel home for me when we bought it. He had a bone stock F250 4X4. I quckly noticed that there was no way I was getting a 4X4 without going through all the work of lifting the trailer to match. I ended up with a 2 wheel drive Chevy dually. I sit perfectly level and just hope and pray I dont get into a muddy situation.
