What's so hard, the leaning in, or the actual lighting? Do you guys have to press a knob?
I turn my gas on to about 200* and light 'er up.
The pilot light has to be lit. It's clear in the very back of the bottom of the oven. If reaching clear in the back, it's all you can do. your face is actually inside the oven, and the weight of your body is over the open door, hoping and praying you don't break the door off.
Then you have to reach up and turn the oven knob and hold it IN for a few seconds for the pilot to light. Once the pilot is on, it's ok, it's just that first time lighting it, or if you turn the oven completely off you have to relight the pilot. These ovens are not electronic or spark ignite. It's the old, strike a match and hope you don't get blow up method!
If holding the match, you just cannot reach up and turn the knob and hold it "in".
