If people unhitch before lowering the landing gear don't they risk the trailer sliding backward. Even if you lower the gear to where it is just above the ground, it seems to me that is a lot of stress on the landing gear if if falls down onto it. I will just stay with watching me raise the trailer until the hitches separate a bit.
