?? They still offer them so far. www.gmc.com
Understand that GM is not making anymore long beds expect the standard cab only (one door on each side) no super no crew Only read about it not confirmed but that will forever end the argument. No one is going camping with a standard truck no place to put family or dog or anything. - aruba5erExplorerUnderstand that GM is not making anymore long beds expect the standard cab only (one door on each side) no super no crew Only read about it not confirmed but that will forever end the argument. - SkiSmuggsExplorerI tow with the F150 Super Crew with 5'7" bed and a Reese Sidewinder pinbox with no regrets. 11,000 miles of towing up and down the mountains of VT, NH, CO and WY without issue. The bottom line is what YOU want.
The next truck will either be an F150 with the 6.5' HD Payload or will be a Super Duty if a heavier fiver is in the future. - ol_Bombero-JCExplorer

OK, I purposely put this question in the Fifth-Wheels section instead of the tow vehicle section because my question is specific to 5er towing.
So, long bed or short bed pickup? Pros and cons of each?
Thanks!
Why base your choice on somebody else's preference?..:@
Buy whichever one fits *YOUR* needs - either one will do just fine!.:C
But since you asked - had both (both were SRW, crew cabs).
Would never go back to long bed *pickup* again.
Caveat:
*If* I was starting over - with my first 5th wheel & didn't already have a pickup - my TV would be a "singled" HDT.
Way less $ (used) than a new pickup & will out-tow anything out there - with lots more whistles & bells. (Visit Escapees HDT forums).
So - guess that choice would qualify as a long bed dually..:W

I am so glad I got my 2008 F-350 4 door long bed dually. It's long, and wide, and a pain to park at the mall sometimes, but when it comes to draggin our Cougar, there's no comparison.

Some people don't care about hauling drywall or manure, they just want to tow! ;)
Now that's a sweet TV! Bet that thing rides stiff unhooked... - transamz9Explorer

If you're going to have a truck.....have a long bed! You can do the "extra cab" long. Why worry if you're going to hit your 5th wheel at all?? :)
The way some people talk on here about backing their 5er, they have to worry about it in a long bed also.;) What do people do when backing their TT in. I can put my 38+ 5er in anywhere a long bed can without a slider in my SB.
Didn't post it for a debate. I posted a fact that you can hit you cab in a long bed just like in a short bed. This thread has nothing to do with a sliding hitch. I don't post in all the sliding hitch post either.
Another pro for a short bed truck is that (assuming same brand and cab configuration) a short bed truck will jack the trailer quicker and recover quicker in a hard backing situation.
As far as hauling 8 foot stuff in a short bed. I do it all the time with the tailgate closed. I've hauled 12' stuff in my short bed with the tailgate closed. If I am going to get a lot of materials to work with I just pull my trailer because I'm more than likely going to get 16' stuff also.
Everyone wants what they want and it don't make it better than others. I drive a CC LB day in and day out for a daily driver and yes there is a big difference in parking as apposed letting a few boards hang out over the tailgate of my truck when I need a few supplies. I am able to get everything I need in the 5er and carry 3-4 days worth of fire wood in the bed and on occasion I have a full size grill that I put in the truck bed when hosting a rally. All this in a short bed. Again this is just me. - Atom_AntExplorer
