- NC_HaulerExplorerI've owned both long and short bed and towed 5er's with both...I prefer a long bed truck over the short bed if for no other reason that there is more room in the long bed..

Age old question with no correct answer. I prefer a long bed for the extra storage capacity. I find no advantage or disadvantage when manuvering. It is what YOU get used to and find most appealing.

This is much personal choice as usefulness. I prefer a long bed and have a bed level tool box in the front. Just been a long bed person all my life. No special hitch 90+ degree turning, parking not and issue, can place the truck in a parallel spot about 3' to 4' longer then the truck with out issue. - Mile_HighExplorer

If you're going to have a truck.....have a long bed! You can do the "extra cab" long. Why worry if you're going to hit your 5th wheel at all?? :)
The way some people talk on here about backing their 5er, they have to worry about it in a long bed also.;) What do people do when backing their TT in. I can put my 38+ 5er in anywhere a long bed can without a slider in my SB. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIILONG BED for sure!
Room for my bed height 30" front to back bed height Highway Products tool box, Custom mount to extended kingpin bike rack and still room in bed for other items. Larger fuel tank. Very nice ride with the really long wheel base.
Still can be used as a truck when not towing. Closed tailgate hauling plywood for one.
Had a short bed ONCE that was enough for me. - transamz9Explorer

I went with the long bed for 2 reasons; It has a larger onboard fuel tank and more dirty storage. We primarily desert boondock and it allows for plenty of firewood.
- GramaofAAAAExplorerI'm sure the slider's are great.....I guess I just like a big truck..LOL :)

With a Superglide autosliding hitch you don't need to worry about hitting the trucks cab with front of trailer. I've turned mine 90 degrees and still have plenty of clearance. - GramaofAAAAExplorerIf you're going to have a truck.....have a long bed! You can do the "extra cab" long. - Atom_AntExplorerGiven a choice - I would definitely go to a crew cab short bed. I used one for 10 years, both with and without a slider, and it was a pleasant truck to drive. The slider went away with rounded front frame on the new 5ers and longer pin boxes (trailair tri-glide)
Due to a heavier trailer and the extra capacity, we were forced into a dually. I need the tire and axle capacity, but I sure don't need all the wasted room in the pickup bed. The trailer barely uses 1/3. Sure I could add stuff to the bed, and the truck does tow better, but the trade off is a truck that I hesitate to drive for daily use because of the size and maneuverability.
