Looking for a good bike rack (four bikes)

Any suggestions? I need a convienant way to transport 4 bikes. 2 adult bikes and 2 20" kids bikes.

I have a two position bumper mount bike rack where I put the bigger bikes. The kids bikes go in the bed behind the hitch.

I'm looking for a better system. The kids bikes are getting chewed up laying in the bed and dragging them in and out.

I have having a difficult time. I do not have a hitch on my camper bumper, and I do not like how unstable that system is anyhow.

My current rack uses big u-bolts around the back bumper. Very secure.

  • I made a pinbox receiver and put this 4 bike rack on it....works perfect....keep an eye on bikes with rear view mirror.

  • We put our dinette down for travel and put our bikes layered with Neat Sheets (water impervious sheets) between the layers. I have carried 2 adult bikes, 1 kid's bike, an infant/toddler tricycle and a stroller this way with nary a scratch on the paint (which I can't say the same as when I needed my sister's boyfriend to carry the bike in his truck bed).
  • If you end up putting a rack on your rear bumper make sure it gets reinforced. A rack will rip a standard bumper off its mounts.
  • We had a receiver installed on the front of the truck. Our rack is for 2 bikes. Having the bikes up front has worked great and are not in the way when driving.

Our currecn rack is a Swagman that supports the bikes by the wheels. It works very well. On previous truck had used a rack that held the bikes by the frame. That was not so good since the bikes swung around a lot in the wind.
  • Did you search this Forum for `bike rack' then search the results for `4 bikes' or `four bikes' or just `four'?
  • I have a Arvika pin mount bike rack. No bouncing bikers are always in view. Holds 4 bikes. I keep bikes on rack 24/7 during camping season

  • I had a similar problem, bikes were getting beaten up bouncing around at the back of the trailer. My solution was to have a 2 inch receiver welded to the front of the truck, it barely sticks out at the bottom of the skirt below the bumper.

When I have the bikes on the rack out the front (four bike rack) I don't see them, on my bike I just put the seat all the way down. The height of the bikes is basically in line with the front of the hood, since the hood slopes up and I'm above that I don't even notice them. No more problem with bikes getting beaten up.
  • I have a 4 bike rack you can have for $30. It was on my Jayco TT, but I removed it when I bought my fifth wheel without a bumper. It's powder coated in good shape with all the hardware including those big U bolts. I bought it from Camping World about 10 years ago for over $100.
