Looking to buy a tag along toy hauler

Just looking some advice, we have a permanent spot at a lake but wanting a toy hauler.. probably keep for next 5 years and then purchase a bigger one and sell permanent spot..

So my question is I have been looking at a carbon 35 anyone own 1 or anything close that they can give me any insight on before I purchase.. also open to any new suggestions etc thanks in advance
  • Any reason you want a toy hauler for a permanent spot? Toy haulers are usually purchased to well, haul toys. If you have toys to keep in the trailer at the permanent spot, can you put them in a shed instead? If so, I would look for something with a rear living room or maybe bunks if you have kids.
  • Are you purchasing new or used? Carbon's are manufactured by Keystone. I've had 2 different Keystone travel trailers and both served well. I think you'll be satisfied with your Carbon.

If purchasing used, look for water leaks. If purchasing new, you'll have at least a 1 year warranty, so anything that isn't right will be fixed, but you will most likely need to take it back to the dealer if that happens.

I looked at the floor plan (thorindustries.com) and then drill down to Keystone and finally Carbon. Not sure which year, but they are all similar. The 2016 year model looks very appealing. That 12 foot garage with the beds would make for one awesome bedroom. I wouldn't be surprised if you put the kids in the front bed room and you and your sweetie took the garage. Much bigger, more spacious, and has a door you can shut! Nice!

If parked permanent for 5 years, you won't have to worry about tires, bearing, or any of the moving part, until you decide to sell it. So even if sitting, you'll want to be dilligent and continue to maintain all the moving parts and budget some money away for new tires when you sell. They will dry rot sitting for 5 years.

Being a 2 time Keystone owner, I would not hesitate purchasing a Carbon at all, if I had the need for a toy hauler. AND .... there is nothing that says it's a requirement you have to store "toys" in a toy hauler if you don't want to. Lots of people purchase toy haulers for that extra separate bed room space, and extra room with with big open back door that literally brings nature into your house.

I think you can purchase with confidence, new or used, but if used, do check it over very carefully first.
  • We have a 2014 Raptor 27FS, which is now rebranded as a Carbon 27. Basically the 35's little brother :)

Our only complaints about it have more to do with the floorplan/layout than the actual camper itself. Looking at the 35's floorplan, it's much better than the 27 and is pretty much the layout we are looking for when we upgrade to a 5th wheel.

We did have an electrical problem, but we believe that had to do with an issue we had with our exterior outlets on our house. Our builder wired them incorrectly so it blew the inverter when we plugged it in. BUT, since we had purchased the extended warranty on the camper, it was fixed with no issues at the dealer, which was nice because we didn't really want to go after the builder to get them to pay for it.

Wow.... I had no idea Keystone was an entity of Thor. Is that something new?

    No, old news actually.
