Mirrors

I have a 2006 Chevy 2500HD and a 2006 Thor Tahoe 22RK widelite. I was told by the guy that sold me the 5th wheel that using mirror extinction was no use. That it gave no extra view of your trailer. Is buying the added mirrors worth it?
  • As you can see, I have the same truck. It came with the towing package which included slide out mirrors. They do not slide out electrically. I have to slide them out but they show me everything I need to see.
  • I bought the ones that slide over the existing mirrors and yes they do help. I can see at least part of the vehicle behind me. I wouldn't tow without some kind of extended mirror.
  • Look at all big trucks mirrors, whether a semi or a straight truck and there is your answer. Their mirrors are not narrower than their beds/trailers. The bus I drive has 6 mirrors on the outside so I can see across the front and down the sides of it real good. My TV has towing mirrors and I will not be without them.
  • Only way to see what is behind your trailer is to have a rear facing camera that operates at all times.
  • I bought extension mirrors for my Ram. While it did not help me see what was behind the trailer, it does allow me to see the entire lane next to me (all the way back) instead of just a small portion of the lane that my regular mirrors do. I've found it helps me anticipate what coming up and passing, as well as when I'm changing lanes. I bought the ones that clip / screw / fasten on my mirrors so that I can take them off when I'm not towing.
  • Your 2006 2500 should have extendable mirrors on it that should take care of the problem. If it does not have the extendable mirrors then yes the mirror extensions do help. You should be able to see behind(not directly but at a distance) the trailer not just along the side.
  • I am going to assume (we all know what that means!) you mean extension, not extinction...and you want to see BEHIND your trailer, not the trailer itself. Yes, extensions help.
