I posted this on the Jayco forum, so apologies for the redundant message. I’m currently shopping for a jayco eagle 29.5bhds, and I’m curious if there are any major differences between the 2018, 2019, and 2020 model years. I’ve got my eye on a new 2018, and apart from my concerns about it sitting on the dealer lot for an extended period of time, I’d like to flush out any differences between it and the 2020 model. The price difference is fairly significant; approximately $7K-$10K more for the 2020 model year, but typically, the changes in build are minor. I understand that depreciation plays a factor as well, but $7-$10K is considerable. Thanks in advance.

The best prices I can find with a quick search on RVT range between 38K for the 2018 to 41K for the 2020. I don't know about differences between models but that price variation with the change in years seems about normal (or even a bit less than normal). I was searching nationwide and location can have a pretty sizable impact on price due to transport costs. For 3K I'd easily grab the 2020 to avoid depreciation. These things aren't like cars that have miles. The only real metric to go by when shopping is model year. And RV value falls like a stone.... way more than 3K in 2 years.

Thanks for your comments. So far, I’ve got a quote for $39K on a 2018, and $47K on the 2020. I’ll see if I can squeeze another $1-2K out of them before pulling the trigger. I’d really like to find out if the 2020 has features that the 2018 doesn’t.

The dealer I talked to told me that there would be a price increase in the models due to the rising cost of steel, fact or fiction I don't know.

Check if the 18 has low profile AC, wetbolt , heavy shackles, and the entry step. May be the one that folds inside the entry door

Yes, I like the “whisper quiet” AC, the layout of the outside kitchen, and the auto leveling system. Apart from that, I assume the build specs are similar. Insulation ratings, weights, etc.

OK everyone. Thank you for all of your replies. This weekend is the moment of truth. I'm making the rounds to both of the dealer lots to look at the 2018 and 2020 Jayco models.

If they don't want to deal, that's OK. I'm happy with my current trailer and I can wait until the offseason to resume my search.

Not to brag, as I really didn't do much but get lucky enough to talk directly with the owner when he picked up my call, but my discount was 40+%. Frankly, I considered buying it and turning right around and selling it. Could have made an easy $4-5k. :B

Jayco will undoubtedly tell you it's no problem but they really aren't the ones doing the work. RV industry is different than auto industry. Dealers get shafted on warranty work and have no motivation to help you out unless you bought from them and they want to keep you happy. Tons of stories on these boards of people getting put "at the back of the line" when trying to get work done at a dealer other than where they purchased. Especially during busy times of year. I'm not saying I wouldn't buy from out of my area but just realize getting work done locally could be tough, regardless of what Jayco says.

Thanks for the reply. I agree with you on all counts. So far, I’ve only obtained internet offers, so I’m not even close to being done. The 2018 needs to come down a few thousand more or I won’t take it. I also need to speak with Jayco about having warranty work performed more local to my home. I’m sure that won’t be a big snag.

Regarding tire wear and decal fade, one thing I have going for me is that I live in the Pacific NW, where the climate is milder than anywhere I’ve lived previously. No humidity, no sun beating down, winters are mild, etc. Tires and decals *should* be OK, but your point is still valid. They need to acknowledge it financially. 2 years is 2 years, and a difference of $7K, while significant, isn’t as much when you factor in long term ownership. If I can get the 2018 down to $35K, it will be enticing.

No, I apologize for not being more clear. The MSRPs for the Jayco I'm considering are between $62-66K.

The 2018 MSRP is $63,708, and they're offering $39,999. That's a discount of around 38%.

The 2020 has an MSRP around $66,000, and they're offering $47,999. That's a discount of around %28

Agree. If the OP is speaking of $7,000-$10,000 off MSRP that is not enough.

Not enough discount, IMO. My KZ was likely sold below dealer cost after sitting on the lot for 11 months. One that's 2 years old already? I'd be offering 40% off 2018 MSRP and would`t move much off that. It's been sitting in the sun all that time, so caulk's likely cracking, roof's aged, vent lids are getting brittle, graphics are fading,etc. My KZ had cracked caulk and several scrapes on the roof. They were all re-sealed before I signed off on it. Deal directly with the owner, if at all possible.
