morryde rubber suspension equalizer failure

Mine have about 55000 miles on a 15 k newmar,they are all cracked and will have too be replaced in the next year.A nice suspension overall ,you have to look at the nasty roads we are now travelling.I well remember travelling thru Boise ID 4 yrs ago over concrete highway ,had a gut ache after 20/30 miles,amazing the fiver stayed together.

I had Mor Ride on a Quantum using Lippert frame. Lippert did a repair to correct the axle spacing that was installed wrong at the factory. About 2 years later I found a tire not wearing well. Took to my service man in Amarillo and he stated The service man from Lippert only corrected one axle. This tore up the Mor Ride rubber as well as shackles and etc. He rebuilt for me using all Mor Ride parts. Called LIppert and they refused any help. I still had extended warranty and they paid almost all of it, no thanks to Lippert. Mor Ride is a good company.

Shortly after taking delivery of a new 2011 Cameo in late 2011, we were adding the wet bolt kit (it was not included on the 2011 models). In doing so, we discovered that one of our springs was bad. The rubber was separated from the metal. MorRyde sent a new one and told me that they had a bad batch. Cracks to a degree are normal but separation from the metal bracket is not. I'm tempted to order 1 or 2 and keep in the trailer in case of failure. Good luck and be careful. Phillip

Its called Crawling underneath and do a Regular full inspection of the under carriage including the Rubber springs. I do believe MorRyde includes in their informational material to do regular inspections looking for deteriorations and cracks. Eliminates breakdowns on the road.

I had to replace one about three years ago. (My own fault. Long story.) Mor-Ryde customer service was great. Next day air at no extra charge above regular shipping.

Anyone know what the permitted amount or type of cracking is before replacement is recommended? Ours have some cracking appearing in the middle area not near the bond to the metal.

The rubber shear springs (#1 in Parts List) should be periodically inspected for any tears or cracks.
There are 4 seperate rubber shear spring bodies molded into the SRE and seperated by 4 air voids
and the “H” shaped inner metal. If ALL 4 shear spring bodies exhibit a 3/4” deep crack or tear all the
way across, the shear spring should be replaced. This can be checked by using a flat tool such as a
putty knife. The putty knife can be used to probe the shear spring in the affected area. If the knife can
be inserted 3/4” deep, the spring rate of the spring is affected and should be replaced. Note: It is
normal to see shear spring weather checking, which is small surface cracks in the rubber. Weather
checking does not require a shear spring to be replaced. It is also normal to see cracked rubber
in the Air Void regions.

Something that a lot of RVers fail to do is regular inspection of the RV....suspension, electrical, plumbing, roof, etc.

No problems with the rubber but did manage to shear a wetbolt at the spring hanger using the Equaflex centerpoint system which I think is similar to the Mor Ride.

I had hit one nasty dip which made the whole rubber assembly push forward. Fixed that by getting all of the weight on rear wheel forcing it to snap back into position. Did not discover the broken wetbolt till another 500 miles later in Dawson City, Yukon. Lucky I had a spare bolt & the tools & blocks of wood to repair myself right in the CG.

Tricky business jacking the trailer just right so that there is no weight on the bolt & axels are not hanging on it either.

My equalizer mount was damaged too at the upper mounting hole but we completed the trip to Alaska & back to MD on it checking it everytime we stopped & avoiding every pothole possible.

Back in MD both were replaced. Tossed the damaged one & kept the old undamaged one as a spare kept onboard.

A job every owner should be prepared to do. You never know how far out in the sticks you will be when Murphy finds you.
