Just a quick illustration - certain 2nd Generation Cummins-powered Ram 2500s used Dana 70 rear axles while the 3500s used Dana 80 rear axles. The current Cummins-powered Ram 2500 uses the AAM 11.5 axle while the 900 ft-lb Cummins/Aisin transmission (not available in the 2500) in the 3500 uses the AAM 11.8 axle. I don't believe it's accurate to make a blanket statement that springs are the ONLY difference between all 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.
