New Buyer

The pin weight was around 2100 pounds. Since I have a 2015 truck still under warranty, I don't want to exceed the posted weight limits. My GVWR is 10000 and the truck weight is 7460. With the passengers, hitch weight, fuel and fluids, and some cargo, I am about 400 lbs over. The salesman and I went over the weights today. I am looking at a 2015 GMC 3500 Denali duelly 4x4 now.

What is the pin weight of the Bighorn?

I was TOLD it was an elder gentleman that had the trailer and didn't enjoy pulling it so he with with a park model. It was sold new at the dealer that has it now and he bought his park model from them too. I do like the idea of having it inspected if I decide to go used. The dealership sells new Big Horn models also. I have caught them in one fib about my F250 pulling it. I guess it will pull it but it won't carry the pin weight with the wife, me, a hitch, fuel, and cargo.

I won't be pulling the car hauler at the same time as the fifth wheel. I am looking for a new truck to handle the pin weight. Not pull them both at the sametime. I guess I could have typed that better.

I wonder why it was traded in so fast. From things I've read, the best answer to that is, the trailer had lots of problems, and the owner got tired of dealing with them. Maybe the problems were fixed. A thorough independent inspection could be the cheapest money you would spend on the trailer, and may tell you to walk.

I don't know if you can contact the manufacturer, and request a warranty service report. Probably not, but that could be real interesting.

Questions to ask:
Has it ever been damaged? Maybe damage has been fixed but I would inspect any damaged area closely.

Has this trailer ever had a water leak? Water intrusion is the worst unseen enemy of any RV. If they have fixed any leaks, make sure they did it right. Get the infrared inspection camera and make sure there is no significant moisture still in that can rot and produce mold (which can happen fast here is Louisiana and other humid areas).

To me its not really what to ask. The dealership no matter good or bad is going to tell you what you want to hear. You have to be in the drivers seat on this deal.

There are alot of great PDI forms on this forum, I would find one print off a couple of copies and take one to the dealer. Tell them you plan on spending all day if neccessary to complete the pdi. Remember this is your last time to get things fixed before the camper is yours.

As for warrenty most of the items carry only the original owner warrenty. The dealer may have a 90 day out the door type thing. Good luck
