New Cedar Creek tires

We are about to pull the plug on a new 2016 Cedar Creek 36CKTS. Although we have loved our Chaparral, we wanted to upgrade a bit and get something with self leveling and a king size bed. My question is...we have Duravis R250 LT245/75R16 tires on our Chaparral with less than 10k miles on them. The Cedar Creek comes with Westlake ST23580R16*G. We are trading in the Chaparral...should we put ST tires on it and keep the R250s, have the R250s put on new trailer or will these tires even be sufficient in the new trailer since the tires on it are G rated? GVW is 16407. What would you do?

Please no wars. Seriously looking for suggestions as I am not a tire expert. I tried searching Westlake tires and can't seem to find much info. . Thanks!

  • In lieu of the 17.5 wheels, you could look at a G-rated 16" tire such as the Goodyear G614 RST that's rated at 3750 lbs @ 110 PSIG. It would have adequate capacity for your 7K axles. Be sure the 16" wheels are rated for this weight and pressure. Someone will be along with a recommendation for a Sailun "equivalent" for the G614, I'm sure. I'm just not familiar enough with the Sailuns to make a suggestion.

I'm not against the 17.5" tires and wheels; I've used them myself on 7K axles on a previous 5th wheel. It's just worth considering whether you want to spend the money to get 4805 lb @ 120 PSIG tires on an axle that's limited to 7000 lbs when there are less expensive 16" alternatives. It's your money and your choice.

  • The 36CKTS if I remember correctly has 7K axles meaning you would be underrated tire wise. You would be better off upgrading to 17.5 inch tire and wheels.
  • My first thought would be to convince the dealer and pay extra for 17" wheels and tires of your choosing.

However if you are comfortable with the Duravis then:
Have the dealer trade tires from your old 5th wheel to the new one.
