New tires

Im looking to replace all tires due to a recent blow out and uneven wear.

I currently have ST 235/80R16 Powerking Towmax STR tires and would like to explore LT rated tires. Two reasons being: tires made in the U.S. and higher speed rating.

I am religious about checking tire pressure. However, with the new tires I will have balanced and rotate on a regular basis.

Thanks for the info

  • I would HIGHLY recommend the Michelin XPS RIBS. VERY good tires...Ran them on a 37' 3 slide Coachmen 5er with a GVW of 14,500# and 6,000# axles. It's an "E" rated tire that will handle 80 psi...
  • I just put on a set of USA michelin LTX2 on my fiver with a 14100 GVW. I have taken 2short trips and my last trip with about 4 hours each way. They don't even show any kind of wear yet. They seem to roll pretty good and were hardly even warm after the trip. I run 80 psi.in them. I just put them on to replace my Tacoma tires that were made in USA and they were 8years old and just started to get a few surface cracks. I keep them covered when not in use and only use 303 protectant on them. I got the michelins at Americas tires for 199.00 each and they had a 70.00 rebate on 4 tires.
  • Keep in mind here that FastEagle is an "internet Shill". His agenda is to keep you in the ST tires. He has changed his tactics yet again and is now attempting to sway the uninformed RVers by pushing the most expensive tire first.

The realities are that with 6000# axles, you are a perfect fit for the LT 235-85-16 tires. They are a little taller than the ST's you are dumping. If spacing between tires is to tight then the LT 245-75-16 tire will fit the same as your current tires. Both offer a load capacity of 3042# which will cover the rating of your axles. In all likelihood, your rims are also rated for 3042# at 80psi. If you want to go with the "G" rated tire that the "Shill" mentioned, then you need to verify that you have wheels rated for 110psi. If not, you would need to also buy new rims.

There are several manufacturers out there that make suitable LT tires that will serve you well. Check out the Michelin XPS RIB and the Bridgestone Duravis R250 for example. Both are steel carcas tires that have an exemplary record.

The only 16” Light Truck tires available that will satisfy the load capacity requirements of your Original Equipment tires are LRG 16” tires. There are numerous brand names and dollar values depending on construction and where they are manufactured.

  • What is your GVWR an GAWR? Or, in plain talk, your gross vehicle weight rating and your gross axle weight rating. If you have 6000# axles or less then there are more options.
