Sounds like maybe the hitch catch was on top of the ball instead of around it. Wouldn't be the first time.
That's what they are telling me, but it was NOT seated incorrectly. I'm 100% sure on this, I wish I had recorded a video but I did not expect it to pop off so easily. The ball was fully (100%) seated. In fact I had to raise and lower the jack several times to get the latch to go forward fully before we left our destination. It's been much more problematic compared to our sierra that usually went right on, but it did fully seat and the latch fianlly moved forward so I was able to put the pin through it. We had just finished towing it about 300 miles!
If it was seated against the ball I'm sure the trailer would have come off the ball while backing it up in the driveway as we have to remove the trunion bars to avoid breaking the hitch due to the slope of the driveway.
I was able to release the ball because the latch was able to move back just under 1/2" with the pin still in it, the pin had a lot of pressure on it and had to be hammered out of the latch.
Is our only real option to trade it in on another model? We are going to lose our shirts if we do that.
