Hi Everyone,
Finally going to beak down and buy a new 3/4 ton F-250. I want to buy a 1/2 ton towable 5ver so I know it will take at least a F-250. My big question...do I really need a 4 wheel drive? It's not just the matter of the money. If I don't need it why have it. I do not go boondocking in the Sahara. We pretty much stay at parks. Plus it is a few inches lower which makes it a little easier on me and the wife.
So I am thinking a F-250 with the new 7.3 gas V8 with 2 wheel drive.
Thanks for any and all opinions.
Tom
Personally, I won't have another 2wd truck. Having 4wd helps on dirt roads that have washboards (you don't have to be boondocking to appreciate this) and it can save your bacon in getting into a site in a CG that doesn't have pavement. I wouldn't have gotten into a site at a CG near Payson as I was backing uphill into the spot and, even with the weight of my FW on the back, I just didn't have the traction. Dropped into 4hi and backed right in.
A 4x4 =can= be lowered; most new trucks have spacer blocks in their suspensions that can be removed to help with height adjustment. I saw a post just last week that said that Ford, IIRC, has spacers in 1" increments to help fine tune ride height.
I also agree with the 1t SRW suggestion. Not much more $$ and gives you a lot more payload to play with.
