We had a 2006 6.0L diesel, super cab, short bed, 4X4 and loved it. It had every whistle and bell offered at the time we purchased it and it had no issues with 154,000 miles on the odometer when we sold it.
At the time I wasn’t even considering trading it in. However, the dealer and the manufacture combined to make us an offer over a holiday sales event at the end of the model year that we couldn’t pass up.
A couple of comments here, I always take exceptional care of my stuff both mechanically and cosmetically to get the best return on my investment at trade in time. We bought the same style truck but in the 2012 version. All the creature comforts on the new truck were much nicer. The safety features and the towing controls were also greatly improved and made towing much more pleasant. The new towing gas mileage also improved by 2.5-3 MPG’s.
Yes, I did end up with a truck that has the new emissions equipment but I’ve not had any issues with the truck with the 55,000 miles I’ve put on.
The DEF isn’t a big deal. Yes, I would prefer not to have it and it does require some degree of planning when on the road, but I just learned to work with it. One last comment – It’s quite – at idle next to the wife’s 2009 Toyota Matrix the Toyota is louder. I know, hard to believe but it's a fact.
Now for the, “does he need it” question. No he mostly doesn’t. But when you think about how much an understanding mistress, an apartment, and flowers for her could cost - the new truck payment will save you both money in the long run.
You can look outside and see what he’s spending his time and allowance on!!!
And it’ll just be the two of you heading down the highway together.
Live long and party hardy together.
