Newbie question, should have asked this first.
I jumped into technical questions on my first post in this forum, but in retrospect, I think I should have polled y'all on basic manufacturer and model questions.
My current trailer is Forest River Flagstaff. Been very pleased with it, has been trouble-free. In full disclosure, it was my first camper, so not a lot of perspective otherwise.
It's a hybrid with two fold down end bunks and a fold out sofa. Mom takes the front bunk, I take the back bunk (6'5", so beds are too small for two peeps), and 9 yo kid takes the fold out sofa.
Assuming mom and I would share the king size bed in a FW, kid would be best served with her own "room". We like the rear sitting areas due to the amount of windows you get there, so a mid bunk seems to be the logical choice to accomplishing both. Once in a while a friend of hers will join us and the loft bunk found above seems to be a good place for her friend to sleep.
An outside kitchen is not a must-have, but we like the idea, especially since they don't seem to steal a lot of interior or storage space when they are tucked under an inside entertainment center.
We mostly do seasonal camping at a resort near the Chesapeake (near our marina). We do short destination trips in the spring and fall (just did a 5 day trip to southern VA to hit colonial and revolutionary war sites).
I have an 04 GMC 3500 Sierra Duramax/Allison DRW TV.
To date I visited the same dealer we bought our current trailer from, which is about 2.5hrs away, since they have the most models on site to check out. They are a Jayco and Forest River dealer mostly. We live in SE PA, they are central PA.
Saw Coachmen Chaparral and Sierra mid bunk models in our price range that looked pretty good to us.
Our budget is in the 50-60k range.
I like the full height models since I am 6'5".
Ok, now that you know everything about me, what brands and models would you recommend?
Todd
