Newer 5ers, Slider Hitch Required For Short Beds?

I towed my 3 different fivers with a Superglide and never a problem..

IF I ever have to go back to a short bed ( I WONT ) it will be an auto slider Superglide.. Great company to work with... Great people to talk to... Great Hitch !

In 16 years and 2 different 5th wheel trailers (with my 6.5' Ram bed), I never once had an issue hooking/unhooking in developed campsites. I realize it had the potential for issues, but it was never an issue for me.

That said, I love the Andersen on my new truck. Super light and super quiet.

I have no need or desire for a sliding hitch but if I was to get one it would be an auto slide. If I had to manually slide my hitch I would never slide it. My father has taken out the back window of his Dodge twice in the 16 years that he has owned his truck and he has a manual slider ... that he doesn't use.

Yes, more to consider than just that it auto slides. Is there a chance, with your model truck, that it could cause the pin box to hit the tailgate, when sliding. I do consider this to be a quality hitch, that works well for many.

Just double checked the travel distance on the Superglide, its 14" ,compared to 10 " on my Reese. Its definitely something to consider, just depends on where that Superglide is mounted ,and definitely the pin box style . If I remember now, with my Ram I thought the Superglide would hit the tailgate with my Montana fifth wheel ,and Morryde pin box . Positive it would hit my tailgate with this newer fifth wheel ,and the Lippert pin box .

Yes, very good chance it could hit, it was a concern. I had the same concern when I pulled my Reese slider back when backing into my driveway, but it cleared . If I remember the Superglide went further back then my Reese manual slider . I had the luxury of checking it out gradual ,not sure you have that with the Superglide , once it starts back I think it goes to until it stops at the end of its travel . A little late in the game at that point .

Early on I considered a Superglide, but definitely not after the trouble I saw with my friends Superglide . Reason I considered it was just not having to deal with that manual slider . I think that is one of the biggest reasons why so many cabs ,and back windows get damage is thinking they can get away from having to use a manual slider , I know I hated dealing with it.

I think Pullrite makes quality products, but IMO the Superglide just has too much baggage with it. .

I solved the clearance problems with a short bed truck ,having the rounded corners on a fifth wheel front cap ,its a game changer . ,and definitely the Andersen hitch .

Mine is no slider. Andersen hitch on a B&W Turnover Ball mounted to my frame. Ram Cummins short bed.





My Coachmen 5’er has “Turn Tec Engineering”, but the front bedroom still has a full king bed and a washer/dryer in the middle of the front wardrobe ;)
