No grease for slide gears...

The manual for our 2004 fleetwood says not to apply grease to any part of the slide system. Our slide has two rails with gear teeth that extend from channels under the trailer. It seems like a bit of grease might do some good here if it weren't for the manual. I'm guessing they say no grease because of dirt accumulation?

What do you all do for your slide? Grease or let it be?
  • I use a wire brush to clean then give the rails/teeth a good spray down with a dry graphite spray. Goes on wet then instantly dries. Just be careful not to over spray onto underside of slide out........can leave tracks on carpet

Use the same on front landing gear legs and rear stabilizers
  • I've been using this

  • I've been lubing mine since new - ten years so far.
It moves faster and the motor labors less when it's lubed. I've always used a wet silicone spray and it has never had a build up of dirt or any other problems. However, I do lube it often like after a dusty or wet drive and I use the lube to clean it off.
It's clear to me that it's beneficial.
  • They designed, built and tested it...I'd follow their recommendation until I started hearing a change in it's operation...like grinding or squealing...

If I did lube it I'd use a dry lube.

DO you have a problem with the slide?
If no problem leave it alone.
