I found your problem right here all along. :B
I had a lot of banging with my Curt hitch. It drove me insane just going 10 miles to the campground we frequent. I bought a B&W Patriot this past spring and all is silent now. Everything on these hitches it rubber mounted and it makes worlds of difference.
