One 30 lb and one 20 lb propane tank for versatility?

Interesting. Now I'm thinking about 20s again lol. It's not so much that I want to do exchanges, but I want the option of exchanging if no filllers are available.

That's why I was thinking that using 1 30 and 1 20 would be like the best compromise. Have them refilled and you're only 50 lb vs 60 as the con and the pro being you can use exchanges in a pinch.

Same here as campimgfan. I exchange when they are ready to expire and get them filled all other times. I carry a extra filled in bed of truck that is locked so I never run out.

Just because you take a 20# tank to the exchange, doesn't mean you have to keep going to the exchange. When my 20# tank expired ( for gas grill), I exchanged it and then refilled it until it expired. Around here, it is cheaper to buy a new 20# tank than to have it re-certified. I did swap out my 30# tanks for 20# tanks in my trailer to 1) save a little hitch weight, 2) make it easier to carry when I take the tank out when I am camping and hook my grills and stuff to it, 3) use the 30# tank at home for the gas grill (use more gas at home grilling than camping)

Not only is it more expensive, most places that exchange don't fill the exchange tanks to capacity. A 20# tank may only be filled to 15#. Do a Google on it. I found this out when I Googled where to refill.

ell if you buy a new tank it is new and good for 10 years, and refilling is way less expensive than exchanges.
