Open Range vs North Point

I'm considering a new 5th Wheel from North Point or Open Range. (Specifically the North Point 375BHFS & the Open Range 3X427BHS) The two floorplans are essentially identical. I'm looking for feedback on quality and support from the manufacturer if things go wrong. If you have a suggestion other than these two of a rear bunkhouse floorplan that would be higher quality, please suggest it. Thanks in advance.
  • My reply here is from one I did for another Open Range question:

Our Open Range is a 2009 337RLS and was the 162nd unit OR built. At first they had some problems but heck everyone has some startup problems. We probably have around 35-40000 miles on ours and still love it. You will not find a company that is as willing to work with you if you do have a problem. I would not hesitate to purchase another one. FYI Open Range is now a stand alone company owned by Jayco. It is called Highland Ridge home of Open Range. They are in the same building plus 2 more bigger ones where they started. Randy Graber, who started Open Range is still with the company. I had pulled all of the miles on the trailer with a 2005 Dodge 2500 with a Hemi.

The truck in my signature is one I just stumbled on with only 7300 miles and than excellent price, Traded the Dodge with over 100,000

Wow - That's really helpful information. I did notice that their warranties are identical along with the floor plans being so similar, so that makes more sense now. Thanks for your feedback!
  • I also have an early model my layout is close to what you are looking at. My OR had some issues what were taken care of fast and any parts needed came to dealer very fast under warranty. You can check my posts. I made a detailed report about it. I also full timed in mine for 2 years and thru 2 very cold winters here in my area. I never had a freeze up and it performed very well. Everything in mine still looks and works like new. I plan to go to small motor home soon so I will have to let mine go. I will miss it I am sure.
  • We have a 2013 Open Range RF337RLS that we've towed around 20k miles. We've had a couple minor issues that were handled under warranty. It's been the best RV for us. If you want to find out about Open Range go to www.openrangeowners.com. It's a forum run by owners and not affiliated with the company. You'll find unvarnished opinions and real life experiences. Good Luck.
  • On our 2nd OR. Had a 2010 model for 5 years. Just traded that in for 2016 model last October. As others have noted the company does provide good customer service. OR's are a notch below your top of the line products but sure provide you with exceptional quality and amenities for their price point. IT's do have a 2 year warranty.
I'm not familiar with the North Point products, so can't opine on them.
  • One good thing about both units is that they are owned by Jayco. Two year warranty and a family owned business that cares about their customers. I do like the OR PVC roof which is maintenance free. I don't understand why more companies don't use them instead of TPO. There maybe a downside to the PVC roof but I don't know of one. Also OR can be ordered with Strong Arm brackets which I have heard are very nice. I saw the North Star at a RV show 2 weeks ago and they are very nice. Can't go wrong with either one.
