Forum Discussion
- TXicemanExplorer IIThe Andersen hitch is NOTHING like the Goose Neck adapters or the Reese Goose Ball.
The additional stress on the pin box area is negligible compared to the G/N adapter.
The folks I have seen using the Andersen hitch are happy with them and report no problems. The negative on the Anderson set up is you have an attachment attached to where you normally have a 5th wheel pin. The shops are generally not set up to handle this when it is in for service. Same issue with a G/N adapter.
Ken - WTP-GCExplorerI'm surprised that there hasn't been more "haters" coming out against the GN Adapter. That product line usually takes a beating on this forum, though there's little evidence to support their supposedly bad characteristics. Just like so many other discussions, people mainly repeat what they've heard over and over again. I don't think anyone has ever posted an actual warranty document that showed the language of voiding a warranty due to this (not that I'm saying it doesn't exist).
However, to me the GN Adapter is not something that should be considered now that the Andersen UH is available. If you're looking at a GN Adapter to more reasonably accommodate your exiting setup, then the Andersen fits the bill too. Also, the Andersen UH is comparable in price to a good GN Adapter. As an owner of the Andersen UH Alum version, I'm head-over-heels impressed and satisfied. - SoCalDesertRid1Explorer IIWho's cooking popcorn? I've got butter...
- Blazing_ZippersExplorer IIAnderson Ultimate connected to a B&W gooseneck turnover ball----works fine. AND, my 92 lb. spouse can remove the hitch from the bed by her lonesome.
- ArmyColonelExplorerX4 for Andersen. It won't void LCI warranty and Andersen will cover any potential liability with Lippert in writing. I love mine!

What are your opinions for the gooseneck adapters for the FW hitches? Pro's/ con's? Considering purchasing one. Thanks!
I recently towed an older 26' Lance from PHX to Durango CO for a friend. Had a GN adapter on it; my first time. Lousy tow. Much rougher than my 29', much heavier FW with a FW hitch. Given that many mfrs will void the frame warranty if you do install a GN adapter. If you already have the GN hitch, get a FW hitch that will use the GN base or something like the Andersen Ultimate, which mounts using the GN ball. With the Andersen, you =will= need to use safety chains in most states (not all). I know AZ requires it, for sure.
Lyle - jarhead_riderExplorerI have an Anderson hitch and like it just fine. I do have the safety chains. My Ram has a J&I flatbed so the safety chains where a no brainer.
- csamayfield55xExplorerThe andersen is great. I have not heard about anyone who has the goosebox adapter but looks like a solid piece of equipment. Lots of people have used the different 5th to goose adapters for years with no issue and some try and rip the whole front off the trailer
Personally, I went with the Open Range Light 5th wheel. It is the ONLY 5th wheel on the market that is compatible with a gooseneck straight from the factory!! Tows like a dream on my flatbed Ram!!
Chris - ralphnjoannExplorerHere is an interesting discussion of the Andersen hitch on the Forest River forums. Lots of good information on the hitch and the need for safety chains. As an Andersen owner, I particularly enjoyed the following post:
"The people who use them seem to like them. The people who don't think you're insane for considering it. I have yet to read a bad review from an actual user." - jerem0621Explorer II

Look into an Andersen ultimate hitch. It gives you the advantages of a gooseneck with none of the drawbacks that go along with the adapters. My rail mount version blows away any traditional fiver hitch I've ever used when it comes to ease of installation, use and smoothness going down the road. It works really well in rough terrain, too.
X2... I would look into this Andersen Ultimate Hitch. It's the way to go... IMHO.. Especially over a gooseneck adaptor.
Thanks!
