Come to think of it, I've never noticed it coming on with the 5er..Thanks sdetweil! I had no idea it worked that way.

As far as shutting it off (when my tailgaite is down to hookup), it pops up on the dash and you select off on the steering wheel controls. If you don't have the electronic dash, I'm not sure.
  • On my 2014 f 150, it also uses the toggles on the left side of the steering wheel to turn off back up sensors. It stays off till the next time I start the truck, regardless of what trailer I am towing, or even if I leave the weight distributing head in.
  • When you shift into reverse, a message should be displayed under your speedometer that says parking aid "on". If you use the toggle switches on your steering wheel, left side, you can change it to "off". It will then quit squealing and beeping. The next time you back up, you will have to do it again.

That's the way it is on our 2015 F250 6.7L.

this auto shutoff only works for trailers with electric brakes.
I know you can manually bring up the panel to enable/disable the backup sensor warning.. just don't remember how to get there without walking out to my truck

if the warning is OUTSIDE the cab, it does NOT turn off when the trailer is attached, and there is no manual on/off switch (to prevent you from disabling if u are supposed to have it).

you would have to add this switch yourself. I haven't seen anyone do this.. maybe asking in the Ford-trucks.com/forums/forum205 (6.7 superduty, 2011 and up) would find some help.
  • Sure would be nice to be able to shut it off, I have not had any luck asking everybody I know. I hope you can get it answered.
