Back when I started towing 5th wheels in the stone age, a rail-mounted Reese was the 5th wheel hitch of choice. Their installation literature called for the kingpin bore centerline to be 2" to 4" ahead of the rear axle centerline. Most hitches are within a few inches of that today. Our B&W Companion falls into that range, I suspect from my calibrated eyeball measurement.
