Pin Box again Moryde vs Trailair

Currently have a Trailair pin box on my trailer. Not 100% satisfied with it. I am having chucking issues. Have since the trailer was new. This is my second trailer with a Trailair so I am very familiar with them. My last one was a tri Glide and it worked well.
I recently acquired a Moryde pin box that will fit my trailer. I've never towed with one before. Will it be worth my time to swap them out and try it? Would like to hear from those that have had both.

  • Due to its high hitch design, a fifth wheel pushes down and forward at the same time. Your TrailAir pin box allows the trailer to push further down and also further forward at the same time. Plus the rear hinge design can cause your pin box to push forward at the same time your trailer is pushing forward. Your current pin box may be exacerbating chucking forces. The MorRyde pin box will help with help with chucking and is worth a try. The problem is you now get to deal with the bouncing forces the TrailAir alleviated.

Better to dump the Patriot and replace with a TrailerSaver TS3. This hitch retracts when compressed, dissipating both bouncing forces and chucking forces at the same time. A lot of money but at least you will be done with it.
  • I see you have a DRW, what is your loaded rear axle weight and what air pressure are you running?

Do you have all your loaded axle weights and unloaded weights? If so please post, if not I highly suggest doing so.

I have had the TrailAir airbag pin box on my 07.5 DRV at 18-19k. No real chucking issues other than the un avoidable overpass thingy. I even added the TriGlide and I can't say it did much.

Also what hitch are you using?

I haven’t had both but I have been without the TrailAir and then added it, I was less than impressed with it from a ride perspective. As highly as it was touted, I expected more out of it.

Since you have the MorRyde and it’s not super hard to swap it out, doesn’t hurt to try.

I agree . From what I have read it’s the single most effective way to help with chucking.

All I can say is the MorRyde is built to reduce chucking. Correct me if I am wrong ,but isn't Trailair more for just cushioning the ride, not much to do with chucking fore ,and aft . IMO it would be well worth your time to switch out.

I have never experienced chucking, but it seems to be an issue Hopefully you don't have the Curt hitch, you will get an ear full if you do .:B

I currently tow with a MorRyde, and its smooth, but I had two previous fifth wheels with conventional pin boxes ,and they towed equally well . IMO from everything I have read, if you got chucking its just the combination of truck ,and trailer. I am sure some will say differently , but what I understand anything you do more or less masked the chucking, thats where the Morryde comes into play.

Whatever the solution , this should be an interesting thread, and I pretty much know whats coming. Just curious what hitch do you have ??
I have an 18K B & W Patriot. Best hitch I've ever used and I've had a few. I agree I should at least try the MorRyde. It's sitting on a dolly in my garage and my trailer is half way to TX. It will be next Spring project. not doing me any good not being used.
