Pin box bolt torque specs?

Still getting my fifth wheel dialed-in as far as towing level. I have lowered the Patriot to its lowest level, and still have over 8" of bed clearance, but the trailer is still a little nose-high. The TV is dead-level with about 20 PSI in the bags.

My next step is to lower the nose by adjusting the pin box. Anyone know the torque specs for those nuts / bolts? Thanks!
  • Thought I would follow-up. According to Lippert, the torque for the pin box bolts for my 15k frame was 95-110#. Upon closer inspection though, the pin box cannot be adjusted further to lower the nose of the fiver. When all is said and done, I am exactly 1" nose-high when measuring frame-to-ground between the forward-most and aft-most points of the frame. I guess not anything to get excited about, and definitely not enough of a difference to consider any modifications to the springs / suspension of the trailer. Thanks to all for input!

    Sport45 good advice

Best advice was offered "early on" - "contact Forest River"

which applies to any/all advice offered on an internet forum.

If it's for which sewer hose is best - no big deal.

If it's for something *really* important - go to the source!
"They" may have some info the forum folks did not.
(Of course the forum folks are always right, right?)

Most mfgrs have excellent tech lines, and the price is right.

They can only help if they know what bolt you are using and if it was me I wouldn't be using the ones I took out. I have no way of knowing what the last yo-yo did to them with his impact wrench or cheater. The manufacturer can tell you the minimum torque required but it's still up to you to ensure the bolt/nut can take it.

  • Just make sure you check the grade of the bolt by the head markings before you start so that you don't overstress them. Also verify the nuts are the same grade or better than the bolts.
  • Pin box bolt torque is based on the size of the bolts.

    1/2 inch Bolts GR5 90 ft-lbs
    5/8 inch Bolts GR5 150 ft-lbs
    3/4 inch Bolts GR5 275 ft-lbs

    Otherwise..........Contact Forest River
