I had to do the same thing (2009 Montana) - saws all with a metal blade. You could use a jig saw with a metal blade but it will take allot longer to make the cut.
I did not cut the "bolt area". Cutting did not impact the strength of the pin box. My 2012 trailer came with the back of the pin box angled.
Damaged truck bed because I did not take measurements when I purchased a new truck (from a 2005 to a 2011). Filled with RTV, painted with touch up paint and cover bed rails with Bushwacker bed rail caps.
