- fj12ryderExplorer IIII have the TRC Surge Guard 50 amp and it works as advertised. Our previous one died with one day left on the warranty and after a call to TRC we had a new one on the way. We've had this one for over 3 years, rain and shine, with no issues. Still works like it's supposed to.
No complaints from me. - gdwebExplorer

x2 I use the progressive ems pt50c - JhurkExplorerI have the hard wired EMS Hw50c but have not installed in my 2009 Cardinal. I can't find a good location to install. Anyone install the hard wired unit?
- robrose1Explorer IIX2 on Progressive. No issues with my 30amp
- CiderExploreranother vote for Progressive Industries. I got the portable EMS PT-30C. Very happy with it and lifetime guarantee.
- RichmcmExplorerI also have the Progressive Industires product that works great! I check the pedestal with the surge guard first before I plug in. On two occasions I had bad connections on the pedestal and had to move to a different site. I usually take a long trash bag to cover the pedestal during rainy weather since the surge guard usually hangs below the protected pedestal housing.
- 1382jcsExplorerNo experience with Technology Research, but I do have the Progressive Industries PT50c. It worked exactly as advertised and cut power to the RV when the incoming voltage dropped too low... and reset and resumed power when the line stabilized. Just FYI - I was staying at a well established RV & retirement community. It isn't just parks that can have power issues.
- DutchmenSportExplorerNo experience with Technology Research, but I had a Surge Guard that lasted only 1 year. My first portable 30 amp Progressive disappeared (I think it got stoled). My third portable 30 amp Progressive has been plugged in over 3 years now, 24x7x365 as the camper is plugged in all the time when home. I put the protector inside the camper so it would not "walk away" any more. This was not the high end model with all the bells and whistles and dials and read outs. All I know is, it's plugged in all the time and I've NEVER had a power problem in the camper. I strongly suggest going with a Progressive Industries, even if you get the beefier version:
- md_procoupleExplorerWe have one and would not go anywhere with out it. It is worth the money, in the long haul. A lot of the users swear by brands / type etc. But our advice is get the best unit you can afford. It's cheaper than replacing the electrical system in your camper. Good Luck and Happy Camping !!
- edatlantaExplorerI have been using a Progressive Industries EMS PT50C for years and their lifetime warranty and customer service is superb. In September 2016 I was hit with a spike from a lightning strike 1/4 mile away that followed a water line into the campground. Numerous damaged rigs, but only one leg of my PT50C was "killed". I put my spare PT50C into service (yes I have 2 of them) and I was immediately back in business. The half dead unit was shipped back to PI and I had a replacement in less than a week.
Forward to 3-29-17: I moved from my winter host site to my home base which is 70 miles away. Plugged he PT50C in and it read 255v on both legs. This is my home base so I know my pedestal is good. Soooooo, I pulled my spare PT50 out and plugged it in and all was normal again. I called PI and told them what was happening and they asked if this was the old style PT50C and it was. This was my spare from September 2016. They asked if I had been in a hard rain storm recently and I had, 2 days before my move. PI said the old unit had gotten water in it due to the storm and send it back which I did the same day. I expect my replacement will arrive any day now.
The replacement I received in September 2016 was the new design with the plastic cover over the socket. PI told me this new design was due to water intrusion in hard rain and high wind situations which I had 2 days earlier.
Again, great product, warranty, and customer service.
I do not work for or have any financial or other interest in PI other being a very satisfied customer.
When my current replacement arrives I will again have 2 units, one in service and one as a backup.
I will not plug in anywhere without my PI unit inline.
