PPL or Camping World (Houston Area) ???

Unfortunately I have to replace my AC.

(Thanks guys for all the help and suggestions in my earlier post)

PPL and Camping World are within $17 of each other on the total drive out price for the same AC (Dometic Duo-Therm Brisk Air II B59516) and the installation.

Both have said they will make an appointment and will have me in and out in approx 2 hours....so I only have to make one trip.

They are both about the same distance from my house. I have never had any service done at either.

Who should I choose....Camping World in Katy Texas or PPL in South West Houston???

  • Having had direct personal experience on significant repairs with both (although admittedly a couple of years ago), I would recommend PPL.

Not that it would influence the decision, but, FWIW, I always found it to be more of a PITA than I thought it would be to bash my way through traffic to get to PPL.

Depending where you're actually located you might also consider Channelview RV supply.....had good experience with them as well.

I haven't shopped at Camping World since they took a stand against hunting. I live in Omaha and haven't heard of PPL but will do some research.

CW took a stand against hunting? If that's the case, then I'm done with them. I just got back from taking soe of my moose in to be made into Italian sausage and hamburger a few minutes ago.

  • Go with PPL.

I bought a unit from Camping World in Houston a just over 2 months ago. Had some issues during the purchase. Tried to charge me $120 installation fee for bubble levels. Was corrected when I reached out to CW corporate.

I still haven't received my tags for my camper. I have called several times to no avail. My temporary tags expired on Sept 24th and I can't get an answer as to the status of my plates.

The city water valve on my camper was bent when I bought it. Took it back in and they replaced it under warranty but didn't put any teflon tape on the threads. The first time we took it out after the repair the city water connection leaked very badly. I had to repair it during my trip. I should have just done it myself from the onset.

I have emailed Erik Olsen (GM) several times and I have yet to even receive a response.

    Very disappointing.
  • have I ever mentioned that Camping World sawed a hole in the roof of my Bounder?
    bumpy :)
  • PPL has treated us well in the past. Camping World you may get good service, you may not, depending on the store.

  • Camping World supports and provides this forum so 1 point for them.

Camping World has some locations that have had many public complaints on this forum so take away 2 points.

PPL has had many excellent reviews on parts and accessory pricing and is one of the better "Go to" places for online ordering. 2 points.
I don't recall any negative posting about service. 1 point.

My scoring says CW -1 and PPL +3

I'll get my soda and hot dog and watch what those in area recommend.
I have no dog in the fight being from MI but I personally avoid Camping Worlds if possible. Randu
