progressive industries 50 amp hardwire question

I just purchased a progressive industry 50amp hardwire surge protector. I want to remove the cable that connects to the socket on the outside of the trailer. Its kind of hard to reach the cable from inside the compartment so I plan to stand outside the trailer, remove the socket from the outside wall of the trailer and then disconnect the cable from the socket. My question is 2 part. What is involved in disconnecting the cable from the socket and then installing a new 4 foot cable which will go to the surge protector. And how do I reattach the socket to the side outside wall of trailer making it water proof. There are 4 screws securing the socket to the outside sidewall of the trailer.

I echo the thoughts above. You want to disconnect the lines from the plug where they enter your converter. Then you connect those lines to the EMS and run a short length of properly sized wire from the ems into the converter.

The outside plug does not connect to the converter. It connects to the breaker box.
  • To answer your question, the wire is held to the outside socket with screws. Remove the 4 screws and the whole thing will pull out. Pay close attention to the wire colors and attach your new wire and insert it into the hole. Reattach with the 4 screws and caulk around the socket.

  • Wouldn't it be easier to put this near the breaker panel? That's my plan later this summer

I don't know the answer to your questions, but usually the wires are held to outlets with screws or clamps.
