Progressive Industries HW50C 50 Amp Hardwired

I have just purchased Progressive Industries HW50C 50 Amp Hardwired for My 5th wheel(2002 GulfStream Seahawk) and have a installation question. I have Generator prep package on the unit and the it has a IOTA ITS-50R. I have heard some issues that these were recalled on some units but cannot find anything on my unit. I am thinking of installing the HWC50C before the transfer switch. I currently do not have a built in generator I use a portable one I plug my shore cable into. So Do I remove the ITS-50R to get it rid of it and never have any problems with it or leave it in line?

The HW=50C and the switch basically do not interact at least no differently than pluging into shore power

The question is do you put the HW-50C in between the shore inlet and the IOTA ATS or do you put it between the ATS and the distribution panel...

I (personally) Choose to trust my ONAN generator... but many disagree with me and put it AFTER the ATS.. I do not argue with them.. You will have to pick a side (literally)... Both schools of thought have advantages.

I am of the AFTER school of thought because generators can, and do, fail causing power problems. I agree with wa8yxm that it ultimately is your decision.

    1. BEFORE to protect the ATS from shore power problems, but trust generator.
    2. AFTER to protect from generator problems, but leave ATS open to shore power problems.

  • Yes....some of them have had issues, but you're really not using yours since it's not switching back and forth. It's really not hurting anything, leave it there.
