pros and cons of toy hauler

My husband and I are starting the looking process of a fifth wheel. We retire in a year, and although we don't plan on being full-timers, we are planning to travel as much as possible. At times our parents will be joining us and our 2 German Shepherds. We love the Cougar PAT. The extra outdoor space would be great with the dogs and when our parents join us. However, we starting considering a toy hauler because we have ATVs that we thought would be fun to use on occasion as we travel plus we would still have the extra outdoor space with an optional patio added. Are there many state and national parks that allow ATVs or would we have to load them up in the TH for transport each time? If we have the separate living area, do you still smell the fuel fumes? What do you love and dislike about your toy hauler? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

The longest motorhome you'll find is 45'. My Voltage is just over 41' but when we use the back ramp as a patio, we are now a few feet longer than the longest of motorhomes. Size matters! lol

Many times we have family and friends staying with us and the two queen beds and the 1/2 bath, that are in the garage, are indispensable.

One pro I've seen in motorhomes is the tons of storage, both inside and outside; cabinets galore. I don't get that much room in my TH.

the new ones are every bit as nice as any TT and the onboard gen and large tanks make it one of the most versatile options out there. Compare the wgt and you will be surprised that some TT's are heavier than Haulers. Seperate garage is very nice also.

Yes, the high cabinets are the reason we didn't go with a Cyclone TH. some of the TH do seem to be made for men, so I made a point to get in each TH we looked at and check out the kitchen cabinets. I'm about 5'4" and I'm only getting older, so I didn't want to have to get on step stools to be able to reach items.

We love our TH-- it is perfect for us right now.

We live in Northwest, Ar. We live close to lots of National Forest land. We boon dock camp all the time and love the bigger holding tanks. When I am ready to load ATVs, I throw a 8'x12' plastic tarp down and park on top of it. Be sure to turn off gas. When I unload, I just drag the tarp out and shake off the mud and etc. I have not noticed any fuel & oil smells. Love the big 8'x16' living room, when unloaded. The heavier frame underneath the toy hauler gives you a good feel. Stay away from Chinese tires! Nothing fancy here! Just good family camper that is quick to load and unload! Simple is good!

We have our first TH and are sorry that we did not get one sooner.

There are several higher end Ths now like the Columbus

I've had two different toy haulers and have never had a problem with gas smell and both were not ''garage'' units so our RZR was inside where we sleep.

Also remember that toy Haulers were meant for offroad: fuel station, generator, larger water tanks, etc. you don't need to limit yourself to RV parks and campgrounds. You can go where you want to go (where it is legal for you to be) and where you can fit.

Our family of five can go two nights with no hookups comfortably.

However, we starting considering a toy hauler because we have ATVs that we thought would be fun to use on occasion as we travel plus we would still have the extra outdoor space with an optional patio added. Are there many state and national parks that allow ATVs or would we have to load them up in the TH for transport each time? If we have the separate living area, do you still smell the fuel fumes? What do you love and dislike about your toy hauler? My Voltage is just over 41' but when we use the back ramp as a patio, we are now a few feet longer than the longest of motorhomes. Size matters! lol

Many times we have family and friends staying with us and the two queen beds and the 1/2 bath, that are in the garage, are indispensable.

One pro I've seen in motorhomes is the tons of storage, both inside and outside; cabinets galore. Yes, the high cabinets are the reason we didn't go with a Cyclone TH. some of the TH do seem to be made for men, so I made a point to get in each TH we looked at and check out the kitchen cabinets. I'm about 5'4\" and I'm only getting older, so I didn't want to have to get on step stools to be able to reach items.

We love our TH-- it is perfect for us right now.

We live close to lots of National Forest land. We boon dock camp all the time and love the bigger holding tanks. When I am ready to load ATVs, I throw a 8'x12' plastic tarp down and park on top of it. Be sure to turn off gas. When I unload, I just drag the tarp out and shake off the mud and etc. I have not noticed any fuel & oil smells. Love the big 8'x16' living room, when unloaded. The heavier frame underneath the toy hauler gives you a good feel. Stay away from Chinese tires! Nothing fancy here! Just good family camper that is quick to load and unload!
