Pump Question

Just bought first 5th wheel...2002 Keystone Montana. Had the intro briefing from service tech, but can't remember everything. On the monitoring panel, there is a switch for heater and pump. I understand the heater is water heater unit. But can't remember the pump function. If I hook up to city water via hose to unit, do I need to run pump? Also, when dumping black/grey water, should I run pump?
I'm thinking that if I'm using only the fresh water tank, I need the pump on. Is that correct? Thanks for answering.....
  • It becomes much clearer when you recconize that city water by-passes the fresh water storage tank and pressurizes lines leading to facuets, water heater and toilet. The pump is there to pull water from storage tank and send it to facuets ect as needed when not connected to city water.
While you are getting aquanted with your trailer you should ask someone to check for water heater by-pass and show how it works.
  • You're correct. Answered your own question. If you have the water heater on and are not connected to city water, you should also have the pump on. Do not turn the water heater on without presurized water in the system.
  • You only need the pump when using water from your tank . If hooked up to city water you have no need for the pump , water pressure comes from the city water . I also don't see why you would need to use water from your tank when dumping . There is normally a water hose at the dump station
