I wish I could say I'm shocked but mostly I'm sad that we the consumer kept getting taken like this, over and over. I've been lucky in that I've never had any major issues. I also inspect my RVs before I sign for them and I give the dealer the Pre-Delivery Inspection sheet I plan to use before I arrive - that way that can check for those things before.
This is a very good read about one man's thoughts on the RV Industry Death Spiral
Excellent article and while a long read, it's spot on. I like the references to Forrest River and LCI components.
I was kicked off of Forrest River Forums (which is a privately owned website not affiliated with FRI in any way) for commenting about the poor quality and issues of Forrest River products and the deaf ear the manufacturers turn to their end users and dealers. Actually, there are a couple others on this site that have also been kicked off for voicing a negative opinion of FR products, That is neither here nor there but what is, is the fact you cannot candy coat the high incidence of failures in build quality and component installation in late model RV's.
LCI builds most of FR's frames and FRF contains many. many posts about the LCI frames breaking, flexing and even frames with missing welds.. amazing.
I consider myself very lucky my new unit has been trouble free but it was built prior to the 'big crush' that is now in progress, pumping units out willy-nilly, with no regard for quality or longevity.
Not just Forrest River either, but they stand out because of their volume.
Anyway, I enjoyed the read and I downloaded it for future reference. Thanks for the article, I hope others read it so they can understand this thread really isn't a rant, more like the gospel of the industry in general.
