Question about insulation in front cap

I was working on adding wiring in the front bedroom, so i removed the headboard, which gives me access to the space between the inside wall and the fibreglass cap. There is some batting insulation and styrofoam in between the joists of the inside wall, but there is nothing else other than what looks like a reflectix curtain hanging down between the wall and the cap. I was wondering if it would be worthwhile to try and insulate the remaining gap between the wall and cap. At some points there is a minimum of 6 inches to a max of 2 feet. If yes, what type? I also plan to add styrofoam insulation on the bedroom facing walls in the basement.
  • Any insulation is better than none. If it were me, I just get a roll of fiberglass type insulation (it comes with different R-ratings)... More "R", the fuller and thicker the insulation. But, nothing says you can't take a lesser "R" rated for the thinner spots, and just add layers in the fatter spots.

Actually, anything on this page will work just fine. It all has to be cut and fitted anyway. Click here.

And this will work equally as well. Click here. It also has to be cut and fitted. It's really your choice.

Although, the loose, "blown insulation" would not very well in a camper wall. It would all shake to the bottom between the studs and compact. Insulation value would be zero then.
  • On my rig, there is no insulation in the pin box area - the horizontal space from the kingpin all the way back to the wall between the basement and the generator/battery compartment. Fortunately we keep lots of stuff under the bed that will insulate the floor from the inside.
  • I added denim insulation to my front cap. Much easier on the hands and nose than fiberglass.
  • I like denim better too. You can compact denim, and not loose insulation value. Fiberglass insulation relies on air pocket for insulating. If you compact the fibers it loses insulating value.

    X-3.

    Google - "Denim Insulation"

Avail everywhere - and Double Ditto on - easier on the hands & nose!

    :C
  • I had a leak where the cap met the roof so we removed the cap and lo and behold NO insulation. Surprise surprise? Filled it with pink (owens corning) insulation. Makes a big sifferance. Now, if there was someway to do the roof. All one inch of insulation they put in ain't much.
