question about placement of hitch

My buddy is installing a hitch himself and asked me a question that Was not sure of the answer.???

He asked what the normal placement is for a hitch over the rear axle? and why?

He has a 2017 f350 long bed and said he can be either 1" in front or 3" in front??

The more the better ?? how much weight could it shed to the front axle placing it at the 3" in front mark as apposed the 1" ??

  • Let your buddy pick where he wants the hitch. I’d stay out of it...you won’t get any credit if it works right but you’ll get some blame if it doesn’t.

    What hitch???

B&W full forward with the head supports placed with straight edges towards the cab.

I'm not 100% sure what he has, Possibly a B&W ? Does it matter ? Why full forward >??
  • Won't make much difference. I'd go at the 1" set up, less chance of the top rear bed corners contacting the overhang.
  • What hitch???

B&W full forward with the head supports placed with straight edges towards the cab.
