Question about sealing around windows on a new camper

I have seen silicone on my FW and even the slides of a tiffin MH but I wouldn't use it. I removed a leaking window and found that they had missed a corner with the putty tape. It looked like there was also originally a thin foam/gooey layer at the edge. After seeing the poor sealing job I decided to seal around all the windows and used proflex RV. It seems to still be a little sticky but seemed to have sealed well.
