I am new to the trailer market, if fact still haven't purchased a trailer yet, but I have question about Toy haulers.I have seen 3 different types, at least I will call them different types of Toy Haulers.1st. Separate space for garage and for living.2nd. Outside space for toys/deck.3rd. Same living space hauler, not wall separating the garage from the sleeping space.My question is specially related to the 3rd. I know just bringing a quad and/or lawn mower in my house garage for a few short minutes (normally kept in the shed not attached to the house) I get a gas/engine smell that seems to always drift in the house. Now when the living space of the trailer shares the same space as the 'garage', doesn't the smell get onto everything?

Yes, there is a smell. Keeping temp swings in check helps reduce it. Exchanging air in a shared living space is important. I have slept in my enclosed trailer a few times. Being in there with the machines was no big deal with a little air exchange, but the gas cans had to go. I put them outside even though it was a theft risk. I haven't owned a toy hauler, so hopefully you'll find me experence relevant.

If your equipment leaks you're going to get a gas smell. That said, we had 6 different ATVs the used our garage over the course of its time with us, all were well maintained and never leaked, we never had gas smell. Even our 2 strokes didn't smell, but we kept them clean and properly adjusted/tuned.

With my KZ MXT20 the toy space converts to the living space. Everything goes out when we get to the race track...four race bikes and a pit bike. The bikes are maintained well so there are no leaks, and as an extra precaution during transit I keep the front/side scoop vents open so the air flows through. Never had any gas smell.

You can "smell" the bike when it's in the trailer but it is not offensive assuming, as Y-Guy states that it is properly maintained.

We carry a sportbike and a superscooter in our open floor plan toyhauler. There is never a gas/oil smell, even if we don't put them out for the night. Unlike pets they rarely mark their territory. :)

If you have manual fuel petcocks on your tanks, make sure they are closed during transport. Any engine with a carburetor will have the float bounce during transport and flood. Not only will you have gas smells but most likely a cylinder and oil crank case filled with gasoline.

By the time we unload everything and make up the sleeping quarters, there is no smell. If the bikes are in the trailer, then the trailer smells like bikes. Once the bikes are out, it just smells like the trailer.

We've never slept overnight with the bikes in the trailer though. We have to unload the bikes to put up the kids' beds.

We have vents in the separate garage. They are open when the toys are there and there is always fresh air. Keeps it free of the gas smell.

One of the biggest causes of the 'smell' is placing a hot toy in a closed environment. The heat from the engine heats the fuel, causes the fumes to expand and exit via the vent tube. If I load my street or dirt bike when hot, it smells. If I let them cool outside then load them, no smell.

I don't have any air scoops on the sides/top for fresh air other than the standard roof vents. I've never had an issue with fumes. If it has a petcock, shut if off.

X2 on this.

I have owned haulers since 2002, never had a gas smell in the trailer once all of the toys where unloaded.
It also helps to get the rubber floor option and if gas does spill, it wipes up and doesn't soak into anything.
