Quiet Air A/C Removal/ReplaceI

On many of the new RV's, there is no ceiling return grill right under where the a/c unit is installed.
Has anyone removed one of these units. Is the entire installation done from the roof? Does an interior ceiling panel have to be removed?
I have no idea and looking at the a/c manufacturers installation guides, they make no mention of this type of install.
If I get on the roof, I can see where the unit has bolts going into the roof but I don't know where the actually terminate.
Anyone with any experience with these types of installations. Thanks.
  • On my old Teton (2010) all installation is done from the roof. It is held in place by big a** screws into the roof framing. The challenge for me was that I did not know that the replacement A/C had different ducting. I had to modify the cold air outlet of the A/C to fit the ducting of the Teton to prevent cold air mixing with the return air. I also had a problem with the wiring until I discovered an adapter box that matched the new A/C to the existing (old) wiring on the trailer. Once I installed that and correctly set the DIP switches, I was good to go.
    Hope that helps.

  • They are mounted from the top. Not sure which brand you have, but the Coleman Mach 8 is held down with 4 lag screws which are under the fiberglass shroud.
  • Thanks. I have a mach 8 on the front. On the rear i have the non low-profile unit. I can see 4 bolts that hold it onto the roof. I'm curious what the manufacturer screwed these bolts into. I wonder if they are screwed into the aluminum roof framing (hopefully) or just the roof decking?
