Ram 2500 with 6.4 Hemi for 5th wheel

Anyone towing a 5th wheel with the new 6.4 Hemi? How do you like it? I am considering one.

Buckey, glad you only posted a one sentence reply, since you are wasting your breath. :R

I been wondering how that beast is gonna turn out also. As I think I understand it will also have an 8 speed tranny behind it.
  • been towing 3 different 5'ers w/2003 3500 drw only problem is you lose speed going up hills,ya just adjust your right foot a little. 100,00 miles on my 2003 no problems.newest 5'er is 38' long combine weight about 17000#

  • MRE I pull the trailer in my signature with a 5.7 Hemi and 3.73 gears. I cant see why you would have struggles with the 6.4 but would depend on the rear end. I don't think twice about taking ours most anywhere although just a little higher gear would be better (3.90's) W have pulled ours over 25000 miles on trips from home to Albequerque, down I-75 and I-77 (W. Va. turnpike) to Florida. You will get a lot of different ideas by the weight police but make your own decision. Good Luck and Happy Camping.

Sure it does. Gas motors tend to have far less towing capacity than diesels. If your considering towing a 10000 GVWR fifth wheel, and strictly speaking you will have no problems. Now if you are asking if the 6.4L hemi will haul the load easily, that is an entirely different question. A gas motor is going to have to work far harder towing the same load. Flat lands you wont feel much difference, but when you get to the hills/mountains your gas motor will be screaming up the hills, where a diesel will simply roll right over the hill. IMHO a 6L gas motor is going to be about maxed out at 10,000 pound load.
This is not personal use experience with the motor he ask about. It is only an opinion.

  • My trailer weight is about 10,000lbs loaded. But that has no bearing to the question.
