Have pulled our new to us, 09 cedar now through about 30 hours total. Pulled into campground got out and could smell brakes. Rear wheels (left and right) were very hot. Why would current be getting to...

Maybe the "LT" was the tipoff. Having said that, don't fall into the trap of thinking that if it doesn't say "ST", it's not a trailer tire. Example - the Goodyear G614 RST. This is a trailer-specific tire that comes in one size - LT235/85R16G.

Many trailers come from the factory with LT tires and do just fine. Mine now has Michelin LTX M/S tires, recommended by Michelin after they recalled the BFG's I had run for 15 months.
Rusty makes a good point, many tire shops don't have a clue.
