After lurking on this forum for a month or two, I just joined up. We just bought our first fifth wheel-- in fact, we haven't yet completed the sale. When looking at all the tons of different models that are out there, we kept coming back to Grand Design. They have a very good reputation and seem to do a lot of things right. But as we were narrowing it down, it was down to the Grand Design Reflection 29RL and the Open Range Roamer 316RLS. They were both at the same dealer and inside the huge showroom so we could go back and forth between them to compare. They were very similar to each other in size and layout and price. Then I noticed some things on the Open Range that I thought made for a better built rig: Larger rims- 16", JT Strongarm braces, the pvc roof, more windows, 2 of the 3 water tanks are bigger, frameless windows and a couple other things I don't recall right now. A big thing the Grand Design has going is the lighter weight. I like both of them and it was a tough choice but I think we made the right decision. See if you notice any of the same differences between the 2 you're looking at. Open Range and Mesa Ridge are of course both made by Highland Ridge.
