Replacing microwave convection oven hood combo

We have to replace our over the stove microwave convection oven. Any advise from those who have done it? Mount will be different. Worried about screwing into the rv wall. Replace with only microwave or is the convection oven worth the price. Only had for a short time and never used the convection part. We have no vent. Does the recirculating vent at the top of the oven stick out beyond the cupboard. Our cupboard above is only 13 inches. Most microwaves are 15 inches.

  • We just replaced our Dometic combo with a GE Profile. Our Dometic was wall mounted, vented outside, and the new combo fits in exactly the same space. The GE had 3 attachment places in the cabinet above versus 2 for the Dometic si DH had to drill 3 new jokes. What a difference in quality. The GE performs as advertised unlike the Dometic. We had 3 Dometics all replaced under warranty. None of them worked as advertised and one quit completely after 2 months. We searched for a model that had the same cabinet shape. We have a European stove top that has a glass lid that flips up so the combo had to fit in the same space so the glass top could extend. Combos are heavy and it is a two person job for the install.
  • If you get a combo unit be sure to check the power ratings. Ours came with a Dometic that took just about double the time for whatever the wife was baking with the convection feature. I replaced it with a Whirlpool Gold model that works very well and the wife is happy. This was important because we don't have a gas oven. Installation was different from the Dometic and I had to brace the back mounting bracket by using more screws into as much wood as I could find. I also braced the cabinet above it as best I could.
  • We replaced our microwave with a convection/micro combo. Just found one really close to the same size. Had to make a very small mod for it to fit.
